I hope that this letter reaches you promptly. I had a rather frustrating discussing with your PA on the telephone and I'm afraid to say I found her to be rather obstreperous. I am writing to you as the president of the Shamley Green Tea Infusiasts, a group of like-minded individuals who meet weekly to sample and discuss rare and exotic species of tea from around the world. As you may be aware, the 16th December 2008 will represent the 235th anniversary of the Boston Tea Party and I have suggested to our members that we commemorate the event with our own small scale re-enactment on the village green. We have commissioned the building of a scale replica of HMS Dartmouth on the square and we intend to dump 1000 tea bags in the village pond.
The event is likely to attract as many as one hundred and twenty people from neighbouring villages and we would be thrilled if you would consider being our Guest of Honour for the day. Although we couldn't afford to pay for your tickets, we could give you a lift from the airport and provide you with tea and cakes throughout the afternoon.
I look forward to hearing from you!
P.s. Your lady wife (or partner) would also be welcome to attend. Maybe (s)he could even contribute a favourite recipe to our village cookbook?
