Ottolenghi |
Locations: Notting Hill Islington Kensington Belgravia |
We weren't expecting to find a tea room as we strolled past the junction of Church Way with beautiful Holland Street, least of all prepared for the profound effect it would have on us. The window display of the small London based chain Ottolenghi couldn't fail to catch our scone-starved eyes and to captivate our jammy hearts. Meringues, florentines, cupcakes and muffins! Croissants, éclairs, tarts and biscuits! What did it matter that there was no-where to sit down and that we had to eat our goodies on a damp bench in the rain? So what if you can easily fritter away the month's Waitrose bill on a single patisserie? It was just simply wonderful, or as Amos put it - much to the embarrassment of the dear behind the counter - "it's like the eating man's porn". |
